Overview:

Venice 

Skirting the very top of the Adriatic this 5 night tour begins in Venice; a city built on over a 100 islands. Two nights spent in the capital and perhaps the most famous city of Italy’s northern Veneto region; two tours including Gran Canal Boat, will make the most of all Venice has to offer. 

Opatija  

The stunning Croatian Riviera coastline is next to be sampled as our journey takes us through to Opatija; this stunning region of Croatia is littered with medieval towns that are untouched to this day. A morning guided tour of Opatija gives an insight into the town that was once a retreat for monarchs, the elite and also the kings of Prussia and Hungary. 

Plitvice Lakes 

An early departure to the spectacular Plitvice National Park passes through inspiring scenery of deep forest, lakes and waterfalls; a UNESCO World Heritage site, the sixteen Plitvice Lakes are tiered with a series of waterfalls, where you can enjoy a walk to take in the environment and outstanding beauty, before a short cruise on the emerald green Kozjac Lake.   

Split

Refreshed after a relaxing evening, sample the delights of Split with a guided walking tour. Split is a monumental city under UNESCO protection and is famous for the Diocletian’s Palace, one of the most significant historical monuments, and a world heritage site. Here we find an abundance of Roman architecture, with a mix of ancient and modern; for a true cosmopolitan feel.

Itinerary: 

2 nights: Ai Mori D'oriente, Venice -  2 nights: Hotel Bristol or Continental, Opatija  - 1 night: Cornaro, Split 

Day 1: Catch your flight from the UK to Marco Polo Airport in Venice. You will be met and transferred to your hotel by private transfer. 

Day 2: Today enjoy the walking tour of St.Mark’s Square and learn about the history that lies behind the walls of its most famous landmarks, the Basilica and Doge’s Palace with its adjoining prisons (skip the line entrance inc). The tour departs from the entrance to the Royal Gardens, so plan to get there early to make the most of the vivid green patterned lawns, lakes and walkways. Discover the ‘real Venice’ as you continue through the labyrinth of narrow alleys, where a magical city of meandering canals overlooked by delicate bridges awaits. Enjoy some free time to catch your breath and perhaps a caffè macchiato before embarking on a mini cruise down the Gran Canal; and also some of the smaller waterways whilst your guide narrates some of the history hidden behind the many buildings that line the banks. Notes: appropriate dress must be worn in areas of worship.(B)(ind)

Day 3: After breakfast you will be met at your hotel lobby by our Croatian hosts Katarina Line who will transfer you along the stunning Croatian Riviera to Opatija, a journey which takes us through a stunning region of Croatia that is littered with medieval towns which remain untouched to this day. 

Check into your hotel, and relax over dinner this evening. (B)(D)(GRP)

Day 4: A morning guided tour of Opatija gives an insight into the town that was once a retreat for monarchs, the elite and also the kings of Prussia and Hungary. Declared as the first climatic resort on the Adriatic, this alluring town boasts 12km’s of promenade, beautiful parks, and exceptional architecture. Take time this afternoon at your leisure to sample lunch or dinner at one of the many cafes or restaurants before returning to your hotel for the night. (B)(GRP)

Day 5: We depart this morning shortly after breakfast making our way to the spectacular Plitvice National Park, passing through inspiring scenery of deep forest, lakes and waterfalls; a UNESCO World Heritage site, the sixteen Plitvice Lakes are tiered with a series of waterfalls. Experience this outstanding environment, by exploring the park and its wooden walkways by foot; taking in the scenery and breath taking nature at its best. Before returning to the park’s entrance by land train, embark on a mini cruise along the stunning Kozjak Lake; your small panoramic vessel which is open on both sides allows you to make the most of every photographic opportunity as you sail the emerald green waters which are surrounded by steep forested mountains. Later into the afternoon we continue our journey to Split; a well earnt rest after a busy day; making the most of north Croatia’s splendour. (B)(GRP)

Day 6: After breakfast enjoy a guided tour of Split; a monumental city under UNESCO protection and is famous for the Diocletian’s Palace, one of the most significant historical monuments, and a world heritage site, spend time sitting on the stone steps of the main hallway, and take in the architecture of this magnificent building, before browsing through some of the small stalls selling gifts, jewellery and paintings or perhaps a spot of people watching of a cup of  kava at the one of many coffee shops located at the south façade.
